FreeBSD Security Officer 日前在 freebsd-security@ 上發佈了一則重要（HEADS UP）消息：HEADS UP: FreeBSD 5.3, 5.4, 6.0 EoLs coming soon

EoL 是 End of Life 的意思，也就是說，FreeBSD 5.3, 5.4, 6.0 即將停止維護。5.3/5.4 是十月底，而 6.0 是十一月底。還在使用上述三種 FreeBSD 版本的使用者請盡快更新系統至 5.5/6.1 。當然 6.2 也快出了，等一下也是沒什麼差別。

另外，4.11 在明年（2007）一月底也將 EoL 。這對於手上有 4.11 機器的人來說，要趁早有心理準備呀 :p 升級沒那麼容易的。

Update: 這裡有 4.11 EOS⁽¹⁾/EOL⁽²⁾ 之後，ports 的處理方法。裡面鼓勵大家還是升到 6.x 比較好（當然，現在還沒有 7.x/8.x… stable 的版本）：

We encourage all users and developers to migrate to the FreeBSD 6.X branch, which is a stable and mature platform, and is now the ‘reference’ FreeBSD branch for the Ports Collection.
